Compassion as our Compass (Sun in Cancer, 2018)

Sun in Cancer (21 June – 22 July)

As the Gemini New Moon set a ‘speak-it-into-existence’ tone for the month, it’s a time to use our voices – as so many already are – the message of this Cancer season:

“We are all Earth’s children.”

Cancer is the sign of the child, of the mother, of unconditional love, of the home, of the family tree, of our ancestral and soul roots.

And when all eyes have been on migrant children being ripped from their mothers – from their entire families – when they were already taken from their homeland, we are wading deep in Cancerian waters… in the wounded and abandoned Cancerian realms in us all.

It is said that, of all the signs, Cancer is the missing medicine of our age… (and thank you to my friends Tim & Mackensey for forever bringing this home to me! #chironincancerhealing) … and when we feel into this missing medicine, of this gaping hole and wound that lies desperately without remedy in the depths of the collective, we understand that what we’re seeing in the news today is a precise symptom of this. Of the lack of compassion that pervades every corner of society.

… and that we’re now seeing it, for what it is, on the doorsteps of the West; out of the shadows (Jupiter in Scorpio) and before our very eyes.

The reports and recordings of the thousands of children in cages – in America – thrust in front of our eyes. Rather than further behind the veil in a distant country where corporate institution, solicited and invested in by Western power, has manufactured the rape of a land and a people for economic gain… places where even more pain and destruction – beyond imagination – is happening. To children, to mothers, to families; all day everyday.

… right now we see it happening at home; on Western ‘civilised’ soil.

(And it figures that it often only hits home when it’s AT home. I myself took a turn this time last year, after the Grenfell Tower fire in London. I was over here In Italy, and overcome with grief and anger. I gripped myself to the news and personal accounts on social media – either lieing lifeless in bed or pacing the apartment in seering rage — because if something like this happened there – in West London, where I was born, and one of the ivory towers of our planet – than this is evidence of evidence of where we are today.)

These events happening on the US border – what it says about society at large – this is about innocence… about loving innocence being ripped from the heart of a child before there’s even a chance. No choice, no nothing. For me, seeing this – imagining and feeling the trauma in my body – feels like a fate worse than death. And we all – certainly on deep ancestral levels – can relate to this theft, this violation, this rape of spirit, this soul-level offence… weapons formed against us, when we are our most delicate and defenceless.

This is why there is so much anger right now. (Mars on the South Node). RIGHTFUL anger. As these events don’t stand alone but represent a wider deeper problem, that exists everywhere.

And yet in this Cancer Season – through and with the rage – we need to bathe ourselves and each other in something we have long been denied by existing power structures… gentle, unconditional love… Cancer’s medicine… the love of a family that is a child’s birthright, but that is being denied right now, and that was denied to so many of us… even those of us with present mothers, but that were carrying their own wounds of the oppressed feminine.

It’s been an ongoing, deadly cycle…. and it’s time to break the cycle with gentle, loving healing.

Anger is an emotion society knows, cultivates, reflects back to us. And it can be tempting to stop there; to remain in the hatred of festered rage. We need to FEEL this anger, yes; it is as sacred as any other emotion… But the hard part is to look it in the eye, to hold it, in gentle watery arms, and to understand it as / transmute it into compassion. If only for ourselves, as our body processes the pain of what is happening on this planet. Of what’s been happening for thousands of years.

Because, as it’s being said, ‘Love is the weapon of the future.’

And I’m gonna go Disney for a sec (we are in Cancer’s childlike realms after all)… but it’s time to BE Moana…

… When she faces Te Ka – the ‘villain’, a horrifying fire monster, and embodiment of hatred and death – by striding heart-first toward him/her with the boldest conviction and the calmest trust, that alone would be enough to move mountains… It was by the far the most badass ‘disney hero’ moment I’d ever seen, and yet one entirely rooted in compassion…

… So for every deeply wounded human being on this planet – namely those ripping the innocent heart from others, as it was ripped from you:
‘This is not who you are.
You know who you are.’

‘Love is the weapon of the future.’
Compassion as our compass.
We know the way

…. holding out for a Cancer Season of gentle transition into greater compassion for all.
